Please be advised that a rate change of 2% became effective on July 1^st or on closest meter reading after that date. The last water / sewer rate change had been August 2009.

Customers on the west side had an extra bill created due to the rate change in July.

This was a result of the DWQMS ( Drinking Water Quality Management Standard ) that was part of Justice O’Connor’s recommendations after Walkerton which required all municipal water systems in Ontario to have a Quality Management System.

These Operational Plans had to be accredited by an outside auditor ( CGSB – Canadian General Standards Board ) and once plans were approved, individual licences were given for each water system.

Central Huron has six regulated water systems – one plan was submitted for all of Central Huron in May 2009 and Ministry of Environment Licences were received in September 2011.

Financial Plans were then required as part of the licencing requirements and included a full asset management and life cycling costs for current and future upgrades of existing treatment facilities and distribution systems.

This included a water and wastewater ( sewer ) study of rates with projections going forward.
