Who looks after recycling?

The Municipality of Central Huron is responsible for the neighbourhood recycling program. For further information, including scheduling and details of current items accepted for recycling please refer to the Bluewater Recycling Association at their website at www.bra.org or by telephone at 519-228-6678. If you experience problems with your recycling pickup, please contact the Bluewater Recycling Association.

How do I get a blue box?

If you are a new resident to the Municipality you are entitled to a free blue box. Please call 482-3997 to make arrangements for delivery of your blue box, and a collection schedule, to the address of your new home. For the convenience of our residents, the Municipality offers replacement Blue Boxes for sale at cost ($6.00 each) at the Municipal office.

What should I do if I encounter a dangerous road situation?

Should you come across a road condition on a Municipal road that needs to be reported, please follow these steps: If there is a life threatening emergency, call 911

Non-emergency conditions can be reported to the Municipal Office at 519-482-3997 between 8:30am and 4:30pm.

Who removes dead animals from the roadways?

Small animals are often picked up by the Animal Control Department. Larger animals, such as deer, will be removed by the Public Works crews.

How do I dispose of yard waste?

A special collection for leaves only takes place in the fall, within the boundary of Clinton. There is no collection for yard waste at this time.

When will my road be paved?

Improvements and maintenance to Municipal roads is a continuous process. Each year, while the operating and capital budgets are being charted, money is allocated for specific improvements. Since a large number of Municipal roads are gravel, there are always questions as to when those roads will be hard topped. It is just a matter of budget allocation. All operating funds are derived from the property tax base, and, to avoid large increases to taxes, only a certain amount of work can take place each year before there is no further funding available.

Who looks after street signs?

Street signs, including stop signs and street name signs, for example, are maintained by the Public Works Department. Should you notice one missing or damaged, please notify the Public Works Department at 519-482-3997 and it will be taken care of as soon as possible.

What if my mailbox is damaged by the snowplow?

Because mailboxes are placed on the road allowance in order for the contractor to reach them from a vehicle, they sometimes are damaged by the snowplow during inclement weather. Since they are allowed to be placed on the road allowance, the Municipal policy is not to replace them should they be damaged during normal operations.

Who looks after trees along the road allowance?

If trees are located along the road allowance, they are the responsibility of the Public Works Department. We use one of the local tree services to remove dead trees, and trim back overhanging branches. The Roads Managers will look for the survey stakes of the property to determine whether the tree belongs to the Municipality, or is on private property. If the tree is on private property, it is the responsibility of the home owner to maintain it. However, if the branches are overhanging Municipal property (ie the sidewalks or roadway), Public Works does have the right to remove them in the interest of public safety.

Can I install a new driveway entrance to my property?

The Public Works Department needs to be informed whenever a new entranceway is created onto a Municipal road. Either a culvert will need to be installed, to allow for roadside drainage in areas where there are ditches, or an Entrance permit will need to be obtained, to grant access onto a Municipal road. The area Roads Manager will pay a visit to the property, to ensure that the proposed entranceway is situated in a location that will not result in future problems to either the property owner or users of the roadway - for example, to make sure the site lines are clear in all directions.

How do I report litter or illegal dumping?

Roadside litter can be reported to the Public Works Department at 519-482-3997.

We encourage the use of the Road Watch Program to report illegal dumping. Do not put yourself at risk, simply record the license plate number, make and colour of vehicle, occupants, time and location of the incident. We request a copy of the information for followup.
